The Coronavirus (COVID-19) is a pandemic that is a human tragedy, affecting hundreds of thousands of people worldwide. The effects of the pandemic had a growing impact on the global economy. There have been a number of confirmed cases ranging from 160,000 with COVID-19 and more than 6,000 deaths from the disease that continuously is growing. The disruption within the economy has created a shift in how businesses and consumers have been performing daily operations. Both the public and private sectors are scrambling to slow the spread of the illness by containing the disease before it spreads.

There will be major shift in how many businesses conduct business

Businesses have now noticed the importance of developing a flexible business model to address future disruption and ensure that business operations are seamless. Remote options are the focus of some businesses in ensuring that the spread of the virus is limited. Many other businesses are struggling to put reliable remote work options in place in regard to the disruptions. There are several things that organizations can work on to address these concerns and better prepare themselves for the future. Here are a few things to consider:
      1. Develop your Business Continuity (BCP) and Disaster Recovery (DRP) plans to address future events.

      (a)  Proper BCP can assist organizations in thinking about prevention and recovery strategies to combat potential threats. The plan should look at the risk that can affect the company’s operations, making it an important part of the organization’s risk management strategy.

      • Determining how those risks will affect operations
      • Implementing safeguards and procedures to mitigate the risks
      • Testing procedures to ensure they work
      • Reviewing the process to make sure that it is up to date

      (B) Set procedures to execute an organization’s DRP processes to recover and protect a business IT infrastructure in the event of a disaster. This is a part of business continuity, which focus on keeping the business running.

      (2)  Develop appropriate communication protocols for internal and external channels for varies types of communications

      • Communicate developments with your client and have a plan of action to push the directive forward.
      • Communicate changes to all levels within the organization periodically to limit confusion.

      (3) Determine and verify devises before letting these devises connect to your network

      • Track all work from home devices and ensure that anti-virus software is installed before providing equipment.
      • Ensure that all the latest devices are patched and have the most current security patches installed
      • Perform device checks before allowing them to connect to your network
      • Limit the ability to of employees to copy, paste or send data from company computers to personal devices

      (4) Provide company-owned devises for employees to work-from-home and install the necessary security measures to ensure that information is secure.

Setting up a Virtual Private Network (VPN) provide employees with an online privacy and anonymity by creating a private network form a public internet connection. Example: Surfing the web or transacting on an unsecured Wi-Fi network means you could be exposing your private information and browsing habits.

      (5) Training employees on the required procedures for working-from- home, proper security measures and consequences of ignoring these protocols.
(6)Verify the required technology configurations for infrastructure, connectivity, and licenses – for VPN/Citrix, as well as voice and video/web conferencing, etc.
(7)Create basic procedures for remote access to proactively limit multiply questions and concerns when employees are unable to figure out how to use the solutions.
